Ken, these are wonderful poems. You do such a good job of describing the poet’s immersion in the relaxed, free flow of memory and how connections across time emerge with the surprising result of a great poem. It is almost as if a mysterious hand is at work and the poet’s job is to get out of the way. Something like being-in-the-world rather than subject-object struggle, but even such terms as these are inadequate.
I love these amazing poems and your enlightened discussion and tone are perfect enhancements to them. By the time I get to the poem, I’ve already entered the heightened, contemplative, and somewhat ecstatic state I experience when reading deeply felt and beautiful writing. What a gift. Thank you.
"stranded
on the roofs of our swollen houses mouthing save me to a world
whose millions of hands can turn up the volume loud enough
to finally hear, or flick with a single click the entire interconnected
vision of it all off." Gut-wrenching description of human beings' daily struggle to respond or not.
